Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by Tanvir M — 08 Dec 2011
I was getting irritated by the unpleasantness of Jake Gyllenhaalâ(TM)s and at times Anne Hathawayâ(TM)s characters, but then realized that they are not unmitigated sweet characters from typical romantic comedies, and thatâ(TM)s the reason it goes above average.
Of course, numerous and elaborate love scenes, surprising by current romantic comedy standards, doesnâ(TM)t hurt as well! However, this looks like another addition to the current Hollywood mantra, love can arrive through what initially started out as sex only (a problematic premise in my opinion).
Looks like a glorification and rationalization of casual relationship, but I am not trying to be judgmental here. Apart from that, the second half of the movie makes up for the sketchiness of the first half, and turns out to be a decent flick in the end.
However, it took both the stars to use their â~likeabilityâ(TM) factor to the maximum to get this viewer through to the second half, which is not a good thing.
