Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by J.j. L — 20 Jan 2013
Really bad, it's predictable, it's really boring, it's really long, it's only funny for a few minutes and I hated a lot, it's just another rom-com and don't watch a rom-com that's not a cliche since Crazy, Stupid, Love, this movie is also full of unexpected nudity and a rated R content and I was not seing that, and it looks like that the characters only know how to do that in the movie. This is defenitly one of the worst movies I have ever seen and I think that the 6.6. at IMDb is one of the stupidest things ever. Really bad.
Edward Zwick is the guy who directs this movie and he only shows that he's a bad director, by the way, it looks like he directed a movie that can be called a former version of the awful No Strings Attached that went to theatres some days later. Jake Gyllenhaal takes the lead role and I'm being honest here, I always thought he was a good actor, but I think I started to like his acting a bit more, because I really liked him here and I'm tottally not surprised about his Golden Globe nomination for this movie, he was funny and cool and he had a really good acting, he was one of the best things about this movie, but then, Jake just had to complete his character by doing cliches and stuff that romanctic comedies always do, Jake is known from Brothers, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Source Code, Zodiac, Donnie Darko and some other movies. Anne Hathaway was also nominated for Golden Globe, but for some reason, I don't think she should be, I mean, I do think she has potential, but she's always the same and in here I didn't like her character, she was anoying and stupid, Anne is known from Get Smart, Alice in Wonderland and much other movies. Oliver Platt is just a good actor and I never hated him and it keeps like that in here, he was funny and okay, Oliver is known from X-Men: First Class, Please Give and some other movies. Hank Azaria is an actor that I like and I liked to see him in here, he had a good character and he was funny, Hank is known from my favorite animated TV show, wich is The Simpsons, he is also known from Happy Feet, Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsosian, The Simpsons Movie, Godzilla, The Smurfs and some other movies. Sow, as you can see, this movie has a great cast and I enjoyed most of the actors in here. Great cast.
A woman who suffers of Parkinson's named Maggie (Anne Hathaway) befriends a drug rep named Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal), who has several technics to atract a woman and he never loved anybody. They were booth like friends with benefits but they both get surprised when they both fall in love with he schoulder and get adicted on the drug that beats any other drugs, wich is love.(What I thought about the plot) Well, the plot is a cliche but I think it was based on a true story, but is the real love an actual romantic comedy, because this movie has all of the phases of a rom-com, the unintrested part, the love part where everybody gets happy, the break up and then the coup'le gets back together, romantic comedies are all the same (Exept for my 6th favorite movie, wich is Crazy, Stupid, Love), and this movie is one of the most cliches of all and it doesn't bring anything new in the rom-com world.
Soundtrack, well, I didn't heard any theme or something like that but yes, they picked some nice songs and put them in the movie, nothing more than that.
Besides all that, I am now going to tell you what I really thought about this movie. First of all, I had no idea that I was going to hate it that much, I mean, I actually wanted to see it. At the beginning, I was really liking it, I had fun, I laughed a bit, but I had no idea it was going to become this, I mean, I gave it a negative rate, but if I rate this movie in a scale of of 1 to 10, I would rate this movie 3.5 or 4, and that's still acceptable for this movie, but come on, I think that only three stars in a scale of 1 to 5 is probably too much. This movie was like watching an airplaine withouht any persons inside and no one is piloting it, at least, at the first half hour, but then something bad happens inside and then everybody jumps from there with a parachute, but then, some ten minutes after that, the airplane crashes and it's not good to watch. That's basicly what the movie is, this is totally just another rom-com and I got to say, I'm being completely out of context here, but if they only made the movie without including the big fantsy love part at the plot, this movie would might give something good, but look, I'm just talking, the directors and the romantic comedies writers still don't know how to make a diferent rom-com, they just don't. I've said that one of the reasons I didn't was because it was long, but I don't care it all about a movie durity but I do care when the movie is boring, and this was, so if you really like to get bored for a long time, go and see this movie. Love and Other Drugs could be a smart and fun movie, but it just wasn't, I'm really tired of the same kind of rom-com. Overall, this movie is bad, it has a great cast but a bad plot and it's just entertaining for a few minutes. Watch it if you want to, but you'll just get sorry for that. Really bad.
Really bad movie. Not recommended movie. Grade: D-.
