Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by Ian C — 02 Sep 2015
Originally, I was worried with the casting of Dando and Cusack. The former is fantastic as the young Beachboy and the latter gives a solid turn as the older Wilson but doesn't resemble the great man at all. Both are outshined by Giamatti's performance as Eugene Landy. The.
soundtrack as expected is immense and the studio recording scenes don't disappoint. Wilsons vulnerability and mental illness are excellently delivered, the portrayals of Love as a jealous cunt, Landy and Murray Wilson as evil bastards are accurate. At times it's an emotional film but doesn't distract from being a fitting tribute to the genius of Brian Wilson.
