Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by Mark S — 20 Nov 2015
A fine line often separates genius and madness; the story of Beach Boy Brian Wilson is a prime example of that. Besides his struggles with mental illness, Brian Wilson was used and abused by both his father and his psychiatrist during different periods of his life.
Both narratives are masterfully juxtaposed in this film, fueled by the strong performances of both Paul Dano and John Cusak. Both give a striking rendition of the film's protagonist, while Paul Giamatti is at his villainous best as Eugene Landy.
Love & Mercy raises the bar for what a music biopic should be.
