Review of Love & Friendship (2016) by Margaret W — 05 Jun 2016
After reading the great reviews, I was eager to see this period movie, which is my favorite genre. Not only was I disappointed, but annoyed to the point of wanting to leave. Thankfully the storyline picked up enough to keep me in my seat.
The constant text on the screen telling you who people were and were they were was annoying. Kate Beckinsale was one note and annoying. Glenn Close, in her day, would have had a field day with this role, ala Dangerous Liaisons.
The editing was choppy and the director often filmed so far back from the characters it was difficult to make out what they were saying. THAT is where the subtitles would have come in handy. I am a Jane Austin fan, but I fear this was not her best work.
