Review of Love (2015) by Matt B — 24 Dec 2015
Love is the first and maybe the only movie I'll ever see that has 3D ejaculation. Gaspar Noé's erotic drama follows two people whose relationship takes a turn towards drugs, partying, and a threesome with a pretty neighbor. And yes, all the sex you see is REAL and in 3D. Fortunately, many of the love scenes are very sexy and the three actors are marvelously confident in their roles. It takes guts for someone who's not a porn star to let a cameraman film their ejaculation up-close for the world to see. Every frame in the film is supremely beautiful as well.
Sadly, Noé's experiment is dull, overlong, and ultimately shallow. The film's decision to have the story out of chronological order is questionable, and the way scene after scene cuts to black for just a second (literally as if you're blinking your eyes) is distracting to a fault. It doesn't work and feels a little too pretentious.
Love is beautiful, sexy, and daring, but by the end too aimless.
