Review of Louder Than a Bomb (2011) by Nicole O — 18 Aug 2011
When I got home this evening, one of the last things I wanted to do was think about school. It was a great first week back, but I was really tired. Nevermind all that. After watching Louder Than A Bomb, I am truly inspired to see how the creative, human spirit came alive in these students as a result of writing and sharing their poetry.
At one point in the film, a weary teacher expresses what I have always believed to be the hardest part of the job. He says that getting students to see the potential within themselves that he sees is the biggest battle.
When students find their voice through writing, as they have in the Louder Than A Bomb Chicago Poetry Slam, that potential comes much more in focus. This film, the story, and the community of young poets will profoundly move you.
