Review of Louder Than a Bomb (2011) by Matthew H — 08 Apr 2011
Louder than a Bomb is an enthralling look into the lives of 4 Chicago high school students as they gear up for a city-wide poetry jam, given the superlative as the âworldâ(TM)s largestâ?; larger than the competition though is the talent and personalities of the 4 kids.
Their drive and reasons may come from different walks of life, but their passion is unequaled. Thankfully, directors Greg Jacobs and Jon Siskel seek to show that through the dynamics of the performances, which are, at the risk of hyperbole, breathtaking.
Backing these fascinating stories is a soundtrack that is a tour-de-force. It doesnâ(TM)t lend itself to the narrative so much as flawlessly frames it. At times heartbreaking, at times hopeful, Louder than a Bomb is always pure; much like we are told over and over, until we realized we believed it without needing to be told: âThe point is the poetry.
