Review of Lost in Translation (2003) by Andy C — 03 Mar 2012
An absolute masterpiece. This is a subtle yet complicated film set in an unsubtle location: Japan. It makes me miss the time I spent there, because the film really captures what it's like to actually be an American in that culture, so I give kudos for that.
As a film, this hits absolutely every emotion. Bill Murray gives both a great comedic and a great dramatic performance. Scarlett Johansson is perfect as his accomplice in this thing that they're doing.
Sofia Coppola's direction is impeccable. The score is great. I can't say enough great things about this film -- I just wish I had seen it sooner, but then again, it may not have had the effect that it does on me now! One of my new favorites.
Fantastic film.
