Review of Lost in Translation (2003) by Liam C — 31 Mar 2013
This movie is very special. While watching it I didn't really know how to feel, I just felt cold and empty. The acting is superb and it's a very blunt picture, it's hard to see these people go through their lives and not fitting in at all, it's hard to feel sorry for an actor who makes people's yearly salaries in about five minutes but, somehow, Coppola pulls it off. It seems like a film that wouldn't appeal to everyone, that, however, does not seem to be the case. Most of the themes of them being 'lost in translation' were lost on me(irony), they weren't themes that weren't addressed well, they were, but I was just too stupid to realise them.
The ending was very sad and makes the audience feel terrible. I loved the pace, the movie was over so fast and in success manages to portray it's theme across to us without making it preachy. Everything about the movie was made to perfection, for a cheap cost, and it shows. Brilliance. I feel annoyed that I didn't get the themes initially, but I can't help it.
