Review of Lost in Translation (2003) by Jamie B — 03 Nov 2013
...a mood-grounded film about sadness and nostalgia with an injection of humor, tamed romance and bleak poetry. In its form, it's perhaps dissatisfying but in its message, it's somehow fulfilling.
With powerful themes of boredom, insomnia, culture shock and loneliness, the film succeeds well in establishing a tale about two lost souls who found each other and developed a relationship deeper than love.
It's a connection that ended so soon but will be remembered forever. It is sad, nostalgic, sharply funny and leaves such great impact. It works beautifully because it lets its characters exist in a realistic setting under a rare situation with lesser drama going on.
Besides, it is made with all-around ingenuity, creating a gloomy but pleasant experience that describe feelings and thoughts without a word of mouth. And it is as truthful as life. A Great Movie.
