Review of Lost in Translation (2003) by Joanne O — 19 Jul 2018
I watched lost in translation twice and was disappointed both times. Both main characters are portrayed as too helpless in their situation although they are, based on all background information, really not.
All in all the feeling of being lost in a foreign country is well portrayed but the film is overall uneventful and repetitive. This is not a bad sign per se but combined with the lack of substantial dialogue and unengaging lead characters it makes the movie straight out boring.
To my mind, this only changes for about the last 15 minutes, where good conversations take place and a logical emotional connection is set up. Yet the ending is not strong enough to give the movie a rating of more than three stars.
