Review of Lost in Translation (2003) by Gabe C — 30 Mar 2014
I really am not a Sofia Coppola fan. I don't like movies that come off as pretentious, slow and melodramatic if it's not for some kind of purpose. This movie is not one of those movies. It doesn't just use it's slow tone and quietness without a purpose in an attempt to come off as "artistic"... because it IS artistic. The pace, the tone, the atmosphere, every element of this movie is used to tell the story. The movie has a purpose. It's about human connection, it's about love, it's about life and how to get through it, all the themes this movie touches on and perfectly weaves together are so relevant and universal for any generation, and it's told in such a beautiful way. It's ethereal, it's lovely, it's thought-provoking, and it's completely moving.
This isn't just one of my favorite movies of all time(my third favorite) but I would argue it's one of the best of all time. There. I said it.
