Review of Lost in La Mancha (2002) by Aaron T — 06 Aug 2008
I just got finished working on a film, and it's a good thing I waited until after we were done to watch this documentary!
This is a film about how a film production can have everything go wrong. This is a showcase of all the worst things happening to a film, especially one with such potential. The filmmakers were allowed access seemingly anywhere at anytime, but there still felt like there was something missing from the film that I can't put my finger on. I think it was a lack of interviews from other crew members as the production slowly sank. The documentary might have been a bit richer if it went a little further into how the crew and the cast felt along the way, rather than interviewing the same four or five people multiple times.
Even with its minor flaws, this is still a movie that film students should be required to watch. It will remind them of the fragility of film making, and that nothing is sacred.
