Review of Lost in La Mancha (2002) by Dave U — 13 Mar 2011
A tragicomic documentary about a film that was never meant to be. We learn near the beginning that there is a "Curse of Quixote" that has prevented any major motion picture about Don Quixote from ever being made.
The curse is in full force here, and everything that can go wrong before and during production does go wrong. It's fun watching movie makers like Terry Gilliam and Johnny Depp at work, and it's quite interesting to see what actually goes into making a film like this.
There's also a disastrous rainstorm during actual shooting that literally had me screaming "f*ck!!!" But it's a major bummer to see it all fall apart at the end, given how much work everyone put into it.
Three stars.
