Review of Lost in America (1985) by Patrick M — 03 Jun 2013
"Lost in America" is a light comedy directed by Albert Brooks.
After being called "responsible" by his wife Linda (Julie Hagerty), David Howard (Albert Brooks), realizes he's tired of the yuppie life in the advertising company he works in and wants to get out and be anything but responsible. He takes his wife in a motor home looking to spend their whole lives traveling around America "like in Easy Rider".
Its a very funny movie about a very conservative man trying to be something he's not, acting like a character in the movie "Easy Rider".
Its everyone's fantasy to leave society and be free, which makes this a pretty good film about escapism. I still it felt like it was missing something, which is kind of a compliment because I wanted more time with the characters.
Its features a funny performance by Albert Brooks as David having a midlife crisis, he makes him relatable even though he's greedy and tends to whine all the time. The script is entertaining, its full of fun surprises and silly narcissistic dialogue.
Overall its a very fun movie, I'd recommend it to anyone who's either a fan of movies like "American Beauty" and "Fight Club" or to just looking to have a good time.
