Review of Lost in America (1985) by Scott A — 15 Jun 2013
Okay, this was kind of the movie that really proves how trapped we all are. Basically Brooks gets passed up for the job he has worked for for eight years, so he goes off on his boss and is fired. I've been there. He feels like he wasted those years and gets his wife to quite her job too and they decide to find themselves by taking all their money and buying a motor home and just winging life. Sadly, the wife for some reason throws all their money down in Vegas.
It basically proves that society makes us need money, and our own personal wants need it too. You can't just live off life anymore, cause poor people are so stepped on these days...and this was made over 20 years ago!!!
I think Brooks and Hagerty were fantastic, with Brooks being really funny. I liked Gerry Marshall as the Casino Manager, and Don 'The Ogre' Gibb shows up as a convict...but he sounds normal, which still has me wondering how his voice got so crazy only a short time later.
If anything, I wish this film was another hour longer. And that's always a great thing to say about a film!!!
