Review of Lost Highway (1997) by Brad M — 24 May 2009
I have a love hate relationship with David Lynch's films. Of the ones I've seen Eraserhead is the only one that's bullshit free. Lost Highway has a pretty large, oh let's say 40 minutes? of bullshit in it. Wasted film. Sure he's setting a mood, he's also hitting you over the head with that mood over and over again with little to no change.
But more to the point it has come to my attention that David Lynch knew that Robert Blake was going to kill his wife. Just watch this film. Better yet, get fucked up on something and watched. I was injecting various italian cooking spices into my veins, and my blood has never tasted better! But more to the original tangent, I am submitting this film to the FBI as evidence that David Lynch made Robert Blake kill his wife.
Also Bill Paxton was fabulous in this movie.
And David Lynch is in no way a misogynist. Take that Roger Ebert.
I like that Patricia Arquette was naked for a lot of this film.
Seriously though, if you cut about 40 minutes from this movie it would be a lot better. Maybe even great. And who the hell hires Marilyn Manson to be in a porn? I'm talking about in the movie universe. The guys that made the porn would hire whatever character Manson was playing (manson) to be in a porn? Come on. But perhaps I'm dwelling on things too much. Going off on irrational tangents.
What is this? Inland Empire?
NJo.
