Review of Lost Boys: The Thirst (2010) by Derek S — 17 Oct 2010
While LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE was a copy and paste job of the original LOST BOYS film with a few minor subtle changes (brother becomes sister in this case and Edgar Frog is his 30's). THE THIRST brings Edgar Frog to the front of the story and deals with the aftermath of Alan (Jamison Newlander) of being a half breed and takes on a mission against rave vampires.
The movie itself is pretty straight forward with its concept. Edgar is hired to deal with DJ X and his vampire army and rescue the brother of Gwen Lieber, the creator of a "Twilight"-like series of books. Edgar finds himself teaming up with Zoe, his new love interest and comic book contact, a reality show tv star and his camera man.
Looking back on THE TRIBE, the only real stand out thing was Edgar and his short lived screen time. Case in point, Edgar shines brightly, joking and doing his best to fight against vampires and occasionally screwing up and having someone bail his hide out. The fact that he's flawed in his behavior is what makes him unique.
Alan returns to the fold with this entry and is missing for a large portion of the movie, but steals the show in the final act.
Tanit Phoenix's Gwen Lieber is SMyer if she were a supermodel. There's not really much going on with the character except for her quest to save her brother.
Zoe is easily the hidden gem of this entry. She's sexy, funny and interesting. Although she's not really all that fleshed out.
Either way, this entry brings back the humor, fun and excitement of the Lost Boys franchise.
Although technically, two rules have been changed in this entry:
1) Vampires all die differently. The majority of the deaths in this entry are virtually the same.
2) Garlic has an effect on vampires. Technically, this rule was changed in THE TRIBE, but it has a heavy influence here.
Overall, glad to see THE LOST BOYS franchise back to form. Count me in for LOST BOYS 4 and how many other entries they continue to make following this one.
