Review of Lord of War (2005) by Ryan H — 30 Jun 2010
Not much of a plot, but it has plenty to say. We follow Yuri Orlov, an arms dealer who sells weapons to the world's most powerful warlords. This is played strongly by Nicolas Cage (yes, I'm a Nicolas Cage fan).
At first the satire is light, we get the little jokes he throws out, but as the movie goes further the meaning gets deeper. I was completely shocked by the written narration at the end of the film. It must have been terrifying for Andrew Niccol to call out the president and other powers in the world, but he did what he believed in and that took guts.
Sometimes the movie felt dull, and Jared Leto puts on a pretty poor performance, but overall I'm glad I finally go the chance to sit down and watch this.
