Review of Lord of War (2005) by Randall S — 04 Jan 2011
This reminded me of some other potentially awesome movies like Fight Club and No Country For Old Men. All of these movies start off great only to disappoint you at the end. The first hour and a half of Lord of War is laugh out loud funny, biting edge satirical, and extremely cool. The movie failed because of dumb plot events (Jared Leto's idiotic idea near the end) and for some uncharacteristic changes in tone and slight changes in Cage's character. However, the real ending of the movie satisfied me and it brought some additional satire.
The filmmaking and cinematography here were amazing (especially the opening scene). The writing from Andrew Niccol was admirable and I loved how free the plot was. Niccol really knows the subject matter and he made Cage's rags to riches story fun to watch. This is a really good movie that could have been great.
