Review of Lord of War (2005) by Fiona K — 19 Feb 2013
Smart, full of ambition and a good watch all-round. Plenty to quote from this one if that's your thing. (it's totally my thing- "never go to war, especially with yourself." See.).
Great performances (HAIL THE MIGHTY CAGE) and well-written script that's original and somewhat unusual but still familiar and typical of a mid-budget movie. (was this mid-budget!? I dunno.).
It already runs at two hours but it could use with some stitching up- I'm hesitant to suggest cutting much here though- it would probably lead to a lot of the sharp wit being removed.
It's informative and thought-provoking but still very a much a movie-movie. What's missing is a sense of direction- the plot is clear and the message is clear but they are somewhat separate from each other. It's rather difficult to put the issues with this one into words actually but they are certainly there. It needed refining but still a heck of a movie.
