Like all of this director's films, all the parts are there, all the key scenes, all the cleverness and the drama, the emotion, the poignancy, etc -- but somehow it doesn't add up to being great.
Something's always missing from his movies. I have no idea what. At the same time, they're smarter than most movies, and they're still pretty good. And Lord of War is not an exception.
