Review of Lord of the Flies (1963) by Dave R — 18 Oct 2009
I didn't care much for this, despite it's status as a classic. my main problem is with the message itself. it's symbolism is obvious: the kids trapped on the island represent humanity and the adult rescuers (dressed in white) are obviously meant to represent god. when the kids end up on the island alone they descend into chaos and only when the adults rescue them is order restored. sorry i'm not religious so this doesn't do much for me.
My other problems were with the pacing and the performances. the former was way too slow for me; the latter was dry and rather superficial.
