Review of Lord of the Flies (1963) by Nick M — 22 Jul 2011
The first and best screen adaptation of William Golding's classic novel displays an uncanny ability to disturb and fascinate all at once. Director Peter Brook's approach to the material is matter-of-fact, which builds in intensity as the kids degenerate into a savage horde.
There's much food for thought here, and it's a picture worth rediscovering. Superior in every aspect to the anemic, 1990 remake.
