Review of Looper (2012) by Magnus G — 14 Dec 2014
One of the most exciting and brilliant sci-fi films in recent years, Looper is up there with the likes of the first two Terminator films and 12 Monkeys as one of the best time travel films. Joseph Gordon-Levitt proves once again why he is one of the best actors of my generation and plays the lead role with such determination whilst still being a likeable presence and Bruce Willis does one of the best roles he has done in a while.
The film has a lot going on and the premise can be complicated to some but it's a lot of fun working out the logic and principles of the science in this and it really drew me into the film rather than took me out of it.
The action is brilliantly shot and keeps you engaged. What really makes this film work is that it kept me guessing. I never knew what was going to happen and which characters would come out unscathed which offered some nice surprises for me.
Rian Johnson proves with this, Brick and The Brothers Bloom that he is a masterful director and I look forward to seeing him handle Star Wars Episode VIII. Looper is a modern sci-fi masterpiece and a huge recommendation for fans of the time travel genre, sci-fi in general or just want to see a great film.
