Cantona himself is wooden and ever so lightly ornamental to this film.
However, Loach finds a brilliant balance between comedy, kitchen-sink drama and footy here. The film feels very genuine and brings to life a realistic Manchester community.
Laverty's script always keeps you guessing and delivers very punchy moments through out. The very very end is let down by some Cantona preening but only a bit.
