Review of Looking for Eric (2009) by Paul E — 24 Apr 2011
Warmth can make a substandard story compelling, and that is exactly the case with Mike Leigh's "Looking for Eric," a football enthusiast who in the middle of an age crisis finds himself in an impossible situation with organized crime.
A hallucination of his idol Eric Cantona is there to guide him through the predicament. This premise enfolds into a comedy with solid dramatic elements that give an utterly insane plot at least something to lean on.
And as Leigh utilizes some creative story elements and builds deep characters with the cast the end result is better than one would expect.
