Review of Looking for Eric (2009) by Gary H — 26 Nov 2009
Before I start I should point out Im a massive fan of Eric Cantona, and really he couldn't lose in this film with me! I rented it hoping to see some of his greatest moments coupled with an average story.
What I actually got was a really great film from director Ken Loach. It was gritty, but uplifting. Cantona was brilliant but was completely overshadowed by Steve Evetts who I thought was sublime. The supporting cast managed comedy and tragedy excellently in equal measure.
I have no doubt I'll watch this again, whether its to see the great man smoking a joint, or just to enjoy the story. If you're thinking of getting this, but don't want to watch a football film then get it, you'll not be dissappointed.
