Review of Looking for Eric (2009) by James H — 08 Jan 2010
Ken Loach is still one of the heavyweight British film directors in my eyes along with Shane Meadows, Mike Leigh & Danny Boyle. This film is pure class as you would come to expect from such a great man.
The main actor, Steve Evets is absolutley brilliant and sometimes you forget your watching a film and not real life. The movie had a bit of everything, it was harrowing at times and laugh out loud funny too.
Cantona has great screen presense and this is coming from a Liverpool supporter! The football dialogue is dealth with so realistically it's just like being in the pub for real. The story is very touching and shot with great restraint.
The ending is honestly one of the best endings ive seen in a while, I wont give any details away but I honestly didnt see it coming. One of the best from 2009 for sure and deserves all the acclaim.
