Review of Look Who's Talking (1989) by Russell G — 25 Aug 2012
The concept of narrating a babyâ(TM)s internal thought process through with an adult perspective is nothing but excellent. I really enjoyed the voice-work Bruce Willis as the main character; it was an unexpected choice and only enhanced the juxtaposition of a baby by having a very tough and masculine voice.
Sadly everything else about the movie is average or even bad. John Travolta and Kristy Alley work well enough as a couple who accidentally fall in love in the midst of a less than perfect situation. The rest of the support characters are much worse though and are not well thought out.
I would have preferred the baby and his internal thoughts and baby logic to take a much greater focus of the movie, rather than the boring adults. It also could have easily worked in a more humor. It makes you smile more than it makes you laugh.
It is fairly enjoyable as a light comedy, but there was potential to do something better with than this.
