Review of Look Who's Talking (1989) by Kc P — 22 May 2011
Look Who's Talking is a nice little family comedy movie that's pretty fun. I have to say though, the movie poster and title is a bit deceiving. The baby, Mikey, who is voiced by Bruce Willis, doesn't actually talk in the movie.
Rather, we hear his inner thoughts and feelings. The movie isn't even about Mikey anyway. It's about Kirstie Alley's character struggling to find a suitable father for Mikey after his illegitiment one wants nothing to do with them.
John Travolta also stars as James Ubriaccco who falls inlove with both Kirstie's character Molly and baby Mikey over time. Mikey's "lines" in the movie aren't side-splitting funny.
Some of them will probably make you giggle, but not burst out laughing. The movie isn't extremely funny. Rather, it's warm-hearted and silly entertainment. You really feel for Alley and Travolta's characters.
I have to agree with Roger Ebert when he mentioned in his review that we really didn't need the voice-overs from the baby. It's true, we really didn't. The movie could have held it's own without them since again, the movie isn't even about baby Mikey.
I'd recommend the movie to anybody who likes warm and friendly family comedies. If you are expecting something dumb and hilarious than you will be disappointed.
