Review of Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972) by Steve W — 15 Apr 2015
Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance is a stylish and bloody samurai movie. Very different from his brother's philosophical Zatoichi film series, Lone Wolf and Cub is more about the hardcore violence.
Its not without theme, as the corruption is apparent and honour still plays a role. This movie sets up the series quite nicely, showing the savage nature of bladed combat, as well as the brooding Tomisaburo Wakayama in his most famous role.
The movie's pace does sag in the middle for a little bit, but there's plenty of swordplay in the first entry of the Lone Wolf and Cub series.
