Review of Lone Survivor (2013) by Julian B — 10 Jul 2014
A meticulously realistic depiction of an ill-fated covert mission. Despite shallow backdrop and a foregone conclusion this film creates a provocative and intense narrative. Seemingly paced and methodically built, this film also does a great job of transporting the viewer into a war-zone.
The dialogue is on point and the sound design is phenomenal. Everything is very well-balanced and the treatment of the soldiers is a respectful one rather then a exploitative one. However, it leaves its Afghan counterparts for the most-part face-less.
Morally complex this film is made very well made on all cylinders. Furthermore, the chemistry between the squad members is very well orchestrated and believable. A very good war film despite its sometimes shallow story.
