Review of Lone Survivor (2013) by Gabriel W — 16 Dec 2014
Berg does a phenomenal job the first 30-40 minutes of the film introducing the world these soldiers live in and the relationships they have with each other. It helps that the film has such a phenomenal cast to work with.
And even though so much of the film was dramatized, it does an excellent job of building tension as the mission initially goes wrong and through the beginning of the firefight. But "Lone Survivor" ultimately devolved into something a little too Michael Bay for my tastes.
The filmmakers took too many liberties with the story, and the last half was just way too heavy handed. With this cast and with such a strong story to work from, I just felt like that should have been a better film.
But it just felt like a really poor man's version of "Black Hawk Down.".
