Review of Lone Survivor (2013) by Joey F — 04 Feb 2015
Lone Survivor Summary - In this movie Marcus Luttrell and the other 3 SEALs are on a mission to kill a Taliban leader named Ahmad Shah who was responsible for killing over 20 United States Marines as well as refugees and villagers. The Team of SEALs were sent to the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, where the team had to hike through the mountains. They later encounter communication problems while in the mountains. While they try to figure out their communication problems the team was accidently discovered by an elderly man and two teenage goat herders.
Now the team has to decided whether to kill the civilians or to let them go and have to face a small taliban army that awaits at the bottom of the mountains. After further discussion the team decided to let them go, they push further up the hill. Soon after the brief debate the team is discovered by the Taliban forces, and now they have to fight their way out. Although they manage to kill several Taliban, they are heavily outnumbered and each men are suffering from serious injuries the team flees to an edge of a cliff. The now have to decided whether to stay and die or jump off and get even more injured, so they end up jumping off the cliff.
After stumbling down the cliff although the seal are in even more pain. The SEALs run back into the woods. One of the SEALs Dietz starts to lose consciousness and shouts questions giving away their location. The team continues to fight the Taliban, even though they're hurt. The SEALs get pushed back further and are now at yet, another cliff. Murphy and Axelson two of the SEALs jump off the cliff, and Marcus Luttrell tries to carry Dietz the other SEAL, but gets shot in the shoulder before he and Marcus can jump off the cliff. Dietz falls to the ground as Marcus falls down the cliff, Dietz was left behind. Dietz ends up dying.
Murphy tries to climb up the cliff so he can call in support. When Murphy gets to the location where he calls the SEAL base to call in support. Murphy gets shot by Taliban forces, and dies. Marcus and Axelson are the only ones left; they attempt to fight off the Taliban. They hear the sounds of Helicopters, two CH-47 Chinook helicopters are heading towards the extraction point. The Taliban manage to shoot down one of the helicopters killing eight SEALs. The other helicopters flees.
Marcus and Axelson get split up and Axelson ends up getting shot and dies soon after him and Marcus are split up. Now Marcus is the only one left and he flees from the Taliban and hides and he falls asleep for the night. The next day Marcus wandering through the woods, encounters a small body of water and jumps in the wash some of the blood off his body. Marcus is seen by a man named Mohammad Gulab. Gulab takes in Marcus and helps him recover.
Some Taliban men comes in the little village where Marcus is at and tries to find him. The Taliban finds Marcus and takes him where they attempt to be-head Marcus, but fail when Gulab shoots an AK-47 in the air and tells the Taliban that Marcus is his guest and that they back off. The Taliban flee. Later the Taliban come back and starts attacking the village. Earlier Gulab sends one of the villagers to the American base, where he delivers a message to one them about that they are taking care of Marcus and that they go and get him. As the taliban are attacking the village the villagers are defending their village as well as Marcus. The Americans Show up and chase the Taliban off and they rescue Marcus Luttrell.
I rate this movie with a 5. Amazing storyline, amazing actors. Mark Wahlberg played Marcus Luttrell with great precision. The other Actors did an amazing job. The setting of the story was really good, even though they did not film it in actual Afghanistan. Everything else about it was really good.
