Review of London Boulevard (2010) by Maksim B — 26 Mar 2011
London Boulevard is a lazier and easier-going version of the well- known and already starting to be cliched 90's British gangster genre. Its decent story and solid cast provide meaningful experience, but fails to offer something different or better than some other stellar deliveries from the famous 90's.
The story of the ex-convict Colin Farrell who wants to start his life from the beginning, but faces the impossibility to leave his past behind is nicely set in the modern London where ruthless street violence comes hand in hand with glamorous and posh mafia lifestyle of Ray Winstone. This combined with the love-story developing between him and Keira Knightley provides sufficient reasons to get engaged with the movie.
Unfortunately, the suspense-building throughout the movie ends up in a cliched, dead-end story with its sub-plots left in the middle of nowhere. This would probably leave you with the feeling that this absolutely talented British cast had been robbed from the chance of making a classic because of the cliched and underdeveloped script.
And you would not be wrong. London Boulevard is a decent delivery, with excellent cast, but slightly disappoints with its "what it could have been" feeling.
