Review of London Boulevard (2010) by Patrick C — 01 Apr 2011
Watchable but meandering film which takes the age-old plot of 'crook decides to go straight', and adds nothing new. The dialogue is good, the cast are interesting, and there's a sort of retro 60's vibe going on (even though its present day), but the story feels a bit under-developed (too many supporting characters are given ultimately pointless screen time).
Knightley is good as a paranoid actress, and Farrell has presence, yet he still seems to be waiting for THAT film which will give him that defining role. Thewlis is also interesting to watch, but his character is seemingly out of place.
A strange, not entirely successful mish-mash, but better than most Laaaandon gangster films of late.
