Review of London Boulevard (2010) by The D — 06 Aug 2011
Messy & ultimately quite dull British gangster movie, a directorial debut for The Departed's Monahan.
Farrell tries to show his deeper acting skills as Mitchell, recently released from prison who picks up a handyman/security guard for a reclusive young actress(Knightley) constantly harrassed by the paparazi.
Unfortunately Mitch's gangster 'friends' have other ideas for him as he falls for Knightley he falls foul gangster boss Gant(Winstone) and a feud escalates.
Given the cast here also including Anna Friel, David Thewlis this film was littered with unnecessary swearing which was actually the only real clear dialogue. The twists are slight & it lifts from another similar tale in Carlito's Way. A quiet lively soundtrack is probably the best thing you could say about this.
In summary this could & should have been so much better.
