Review of London Boulevard (2010) by Christian M — 14 Aug 2011
Confident direction, great central performance from Colin Farrell and a well thought out soundtrack make this south london Gangsta piece stand head and shoulders above the crowd. Ray Winstone walks the typical fine line between carton caricature and genuine psycho menace - just about coming out on the wrong side.
David Thewlis steals all of his scenes while Eddie Marsden is underused as the bent copper. While it is so obviously derivative (Cinematography from "The long good Friday", plot from "The Layer Cake", tabloid monkeys from any Guy Ritchie film.
.. ) that it doesn't feel so shows the thing has been constructed with a great deal of skill and attention.
