Review of Lolita (1962) by Josepha K — 26 Feb 2009
Stanley Kubrick lolita is disappointing. I read the book twice and then watched the modern version from Adrian Lyne (1997) with Jeremy irons as hum.
Kubricks version surprisingly as Nabokov as the screenwriter is focusing on different aspects of the characters and totally misses the romance between Lo and humbert, perhaps it is because it was difficult to have almost sexual scenes in the 1960â??s.
But Lolita herself seems like an older woman from the 1950â??s and couldnâ??t convince me with the 12 naïve charm even if she tried. And humbert, no way. Also clare qulity character was so over the top and basically written extra for Petter seller. Nothing agains Sellers, he is a great actor, but doesnâ??t look like quilty and should have never been cast.
