Review of Lolita (1962) by Bonnie M — 22 Nov 2009
There is something wonderfully tangible about this film... it is subtle and sly and in no way easily defined or explained away. There are no sides and there is only the events. This sort of minutely manipulated black and white pays homage to Nabokov's brilliant linguistic style, but is also fully Kubrick's own subtlety and oddly seductive craft.
It's not what you think it is, but it is rather hypnotizing.
