Review of Logan's Run (1976) by Forest Y — 10 Aug 2011
For some reason I had it in my head that this was a sci-fi classic which was meant to be a little bit, you know? Good.
How wrong I was. For a film with such a wonderful, distopian, sci-fi concept (the future is almost perfect except that people are 'put down' once they reach age 30 and one man goes on the run from all of this) and Michael York in the lead, I excpected more than a bunch of pricks running around a shopping mall, talking crap for 2 full hours, all interspliced with the worst miniatures I have EVER seen. Seriously, this film's special effects are just abysmal. It's from 1976, but that's no excuse. This film is far below the standard of say, Star Trek, a TELEVISION SERIES from TEN YEARS EARLIER. Especially as this wasn't just some little B-movie, this was a blockbuster Summer movie.
So yeah. It had potential for depth and if it's based on some sort of short story or something (it felt like it was) then the story probably contains all that depth, but this film incarnation certainly doesn't contain any. But worst of all, it's boring. Utter crap.
4/10.
