Review of Lock Up (1989) by Sidney S — 13 Oct 2013
An underrated, great action picture. Stallone gives a hell of a performance of an inmate trying to fend for his life in a jail run by a revenge obsessed warden. This film while being less of an over the top vintage 80's style action movie it blends grounded action with suspense along with drama.
Stallone while known for being the action superstar, gives one of his best performances in this film as Frank Leone. Leone upon transfer to Gateway prison is fending for his life due to the tactics of warden Drumgoole from his past. Drumgoole wants to break Leone to the point of either death or a lifetime of hard time in his prison. Stallone's standout scene is when he is imprisoned in "The hole.".
This is not a great film by any means but it is pure 80's entertainment and with Sly Stallone as the film's star you can't go wrong.
