Review of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) by S S — 25 Oct 2011
Yet another film in the endless cavalcade of British crime films starring Jason Statham. Thankfully, most of these films are pretty good, and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels is no exception. This film has all the classic plot points that make up British crime films, including numerous reversals of fortune, main characters meeting by pure coincidence, something important that the right characters don't know (in this case, the true value of the antique guns), and of course, an epic showdown that ends badly for everyone.
Through in some comedy and over the top ridiculous moments, and you've got yourself a pretty enjoyable crime film. It's a simple formula, really, but it totally works.
