Review of Living in Oblivion (1995) by Brandon T — 01 Nov 2010
A great 'film in a film' in the ancient spirit of self-reflexive cinema. Every country's industry has one or many of these, and I think Tom DiCillo's effort here is wittier and more human than even the great Truffaut effort 'La Nuit Americaine' (Day for Night).
I would compare this with 'Tristram Shandy: a Cock and Bull Story', which is a bit more whimsical, but 'Living in Oblivion' just is so great for Steve Buscemi and Catherine Keener's performances.
Sigh, Catherine Keener.. you were so young once.
