Review of Live Free or Die Hard (2007) by Monty H — 17 Dec 2012
Bruce Willis returns as New York detective John McClane after a 12 year absence. And he was sorely missed. In his fourth outing, a former disgruntled government operative shuts down America through the computer network causing all kinds of panic and hysteria. traffic, power, airports..basically anything that is run by computer is taken out. McClane is called in to escort a potential witness (a known computer hacker) to Washington, DC, who could have some knowledge about the current situation. Ten minutes into the movie, all hell breaks loose as the bad guys try to kill the young hacker. And once again, McClane finds himself in an all too familiar situation. Not only does he have to deal with terrorists but also a defiant daughter (Mary E Winstead) who later becomes a kidnap victim. This movie kicks ass. The action is decidely old school with some super crazy stunt work with a small amount of CG. It moves at a pretty good clip and features a jaw dropping scene involving a semi truck, a fighter jet, and a collapsing bridge. Bruce is once again in top form as McClane- a little older and wiser but still dispensing with the wisecracks and still deadly with a firearm. Justin Long is a riot as the hacker who becomes McClane's only ally. Timonthy Olyphant is pretty good as the villian. Mary E Winstead as McClane's daughter is just like her old man- with a smart mouth and can get tough when she needs to. And Maggie Q is awesome as Olyphant's sidekick/girlfriend. She has a memorable face off with McClane that will have you cheering hell yeah. This Die Hard film rocks. You will definetly enjoy this one. One of the best films I have ever seen.
John McClane: Mai? Asian chick, likes to kick people? Yeah, last time I saw her she was at the bottom of an elevator shaft with an SUV up her ass.
