Review of Live Free or Die Hard (2007) by Giovanni M — 01 Dec 2014
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this film. It is definitely over the top ridiculous in its logic and plot (though not as much as 2), but it moves at such a fun pace and has just enough substance that you just do not mind.
The action is exciting and stunning, mostly because of excellent use of practical stunt work rather than CG-heavy design (which will always score bonus points for a film). Justin Long is actually quite entertaining as the sidekick character and while Oliphant is nothing special as the villain, he has a refreshingly low key approach to his larger than life evil than the last two antagonists.
This one even has a good sense of humor, which I felt was lacking from the last film. It may not the tense but calculated pace or the character development that made the first film so incredible, but it is a great action film that even non-Die Hard fans can enjoy.
