Review of Live Free or Die Hard (2007) by Griffin B — 27 Jul 2013
Bruce Willis seems bored in this film, and his character's one-liners are similarly less sharp than before. The plot is far more preposterous than that of the previous films and it reaches critically silly levels, as do the action sequences (especially in the last third of the movie). McClane's character is becoming too invulnerable in order to meet the demands of the more and more insane action in each new sequel, and said action is becoming far too CGI-heavy.
However, there are some pretty good performances from Justin Long and Timothy Olyphant, some decent ideas, and there are still a few great John McClane moments and set-pieces, even if they are dwindling in numbers. But overall, this is where the Die Hard series is clearly starting to lose steam.
