Review of Live and Let Die (1973) by Brendan C — 31 Jan 2013

In this overly ridiculous film Roger Moore played 007 for the first time. Though he played the role just like Sea Connery, I felt like the movie was too much at times. The villains were what I thought were mostly too much. I thought the death traps were way to ridiculous.

During the scene where he gets left on that little island in the pond with the gators, I thought it was stupid how the villain just left him alone out there, instead of watching him. They obviously set it up that way so he could escape. This is when the villain stupidity started that they make fun of in Austin Powers.

Also the ending was ridiculous, and very cheesy. Another case where the villain doesn't just shoot him, and puts him in a trap that he can escape. I hated the bullet that fills something up with so much air that it explodes. I thought that was really stupid how he did that, and the villain basically becomes a balloon when he puts it in his mouth, and just floats to the roof, and explodes. Awful scene.

However I did like the boat chase scene. That was a lot of fun, but it was still ridiculous. The one part when he drives the boat on land so he can steal another one that has gas, there was a mistake in that scene. He didn't have a key for the boat he stole. Other then that one mistake it was a fun chase.

Other then the ridiculous death traps I thought that this was a decent Bond film. It is one of the decent Roger Moore films. I would have given it a 70% if it wasn't for the dumb villains, leaving Bond in stupid escapable traps all the time.

The action was really fun, and funny. I also liked the gadgets that he had. Even though I had a lot to critisize with this film, I still thought it was very good.
